An Ear For An Ear

After chronic ear infections with my Portugese Water Dog, going to the vet again for more antibiotics was not an option. We had tried a professional ear cleaner prescribed by the vet, special antibiotic ear drops, and special antibiotic ear cream. But the infection just kept returning. We scoured the internet for home remedies, 1 part alcohol to 1 part vinegar to 1 part peroxide, ouch!!!! Apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, coconut oil, oregano oil with olive oil, (He ended up smelling like a fine Italian restaurant) admittedly they all helped but never removed the infection for good.

Back to the internet I went and found a bacteria made for IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) It is a potent 420 Billion CFU bacteria that multiplies to outgrow the bad bacteria in the gut and intestines which is the underlying cause of the ear infection (something the vet never tells you). After 3 years of our Portugese Water Dog shedding (yes, our non shedding dog was dropping hair profusely!) from fungal overgrowth, folliculitis from the hair folic and his chronic ear infection, we were ready to try anything. So with coconut oil in his ear every night and a package of extra strength bacteria in a little dish of yogurt before bed, I am happy to say our happy Portugese Water Dog is no longer shedding, and his folliculitis (patches of dry flaky fungus on his skin) have disappeared. We have since said good bye to the cone that he was sequestered to for an entire year, and he has stopped eating his poop, something dogs do when there is bacteria missing from their gut. Halalujah!
